Job Description and Required Skills
Job Title: Process Development Co-op
Job Description: This position involves the process development of a heterogeneous catalytic gas phase process for the production of renewable fuels and chemicals in the department of Biofuels and Biorefinery, within the work group of Biobased Chemicals. The position is part of a work group of around 3-4 employees, mostly post docs with chemical or engineering background.
Development of processes using renewable resources as ethanol, butanol or acetone become of major interest because of the increasing availability but limited use. Fraunhofer UMSICHT has developed a process for the production of larger molecules from those substances to overcome limitations in diesel or kerosene blending or generating chemicals of higher value.
To introduce new processes into existing industrial production processes a high level of process development must be reached. This not only includes the reaction itself and the used catalyst but also downstream processing, recycling of unreacted feedstock or upgrading of derived product subsequently.
- Will work on different lab-scale plants for the reaction engineering and subsequent downstream processing
- Analyze the different product fractions, draw conclusions and discuss with supervisors or the whole team
